“I truly think that the best way to increase creativity is through observing others. Thank you, BYLINED, for helping our community do so!”
BYLINED: How do you spend your time?
Kayla: As surprising as it may seem, I am an accountant and love numbers. Recently, I developed an interest in food photography (because let’s be honest, I’ve ALWAYS loved food). I started my Instagram account about six months ago to share the eccentric spots, hidden gems, and just plain delicious foods around Columbus and beyond. And it’s taken off!
BYLINED: We loved the bloody mary photo, made us crave a couple. Did you create it? Please tell us more about these beautiful creations.
Kayla: I did create them! I wish I could claim all of the credit, but Standard Hall in the Short North sets you up with so many great options in their bloody bar that it’s hard to mess up. And all that for only $12! They let you choose between 3 liquors and 3 different mixes to start, so you really can create your own. I will also admit that I ate an entire breakfast sandwich after consuming this monstrosity. No Regrets.
BYLINED: Same with the Condado Taco photos. What’s your go-to combo?
Kayla: I must have a thing for “create your owns”, huh? It’s hard for me to say no to Condado’s pulled pork, to which I add pineapple salsa, pickled onions, garlic crema, and a few other toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple mixes with the meat and YUM. Amazeballs. Plus the chips, always get the chips and guac.
BYLINED: We peeped your Insta as well as your blog and noticed your passion for food photography. Any tips for Byliners when it comes to shooting food?
Kayla: I recently started playing around with food photography, so I don’t even feel like I have the experience to be giving tips! I took a food styling class with the amazing Allie Lehman at The Wonder Jam (link), and that really peaked my interest. Lighting has definitely been my hardest challenge so far, don’t give up and just keep playing around until you have “the shot”!
BYLINED: As you may know, BYLINED is a new company based in Columbus, OH. We really value these 1:1 conversations we have with our community. What feedback do you have for us?
Kayla: I love Columbus, so you’re definitely doing that right! I loved the immediate response to my photo submissions, as well as being able to see others. I truly think that the best way to increase creativity is through observing others. Thank you, BYLINED, for helping our community do so!!
BYLINED: Thank you!
